The Lesson, 2005
Darnell Davis
Lincoln Park Zoo
West gate, 2001 North Clark Street

Atop a limestone plinth at the west entrance of the zoo, this bronze group features an adult female black bear and two cubs attempting to catch fish from a stream.  Davis (born 1962) is a native of Texas. Raised an only child, the artist claims that animals were his closest friends. A member of Society of Animal Artists and The American Society of Marine Artists, many of his bronze and stainless steel pieces feature animals and nature. Other works can be viewed in Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette, Indiana and Dallas Zoo.
