Fighter, 1998
S. Thomas Scarff
Green space at North
Clark and West Wisconsin Streets
This
16-foot bronze and stainless steel sculpture is the second piece by S. Thomas
(Tom) Scarff in this neighborhood green space. It was originally installed with
the intention of being rotated out with other art. Scarff, the
curator-in-residence at Purdue University North Central in Westville, Indiana since the late 1990s, is proud of the work he
has been able to accomplish on that campus with Judy Jacobi, Assistant Vice
Chancellor of Marketing and Community Relations. There, he has been able to bring in a number
of sculptures by a variety of artists. Scarff relays that the success of the
program is now copied by other universities. In the same manner that works are
rotated on the campus, Scarff is interested in selling Fighter and replacing
it with another work for the residents to enjoy.
